Pretty long time no see.
Assalamualaikum.
I havent blog a single thing except for the first day of me at Kuantan. After almost 4 years blogging, I come to the realization that I'm either
1) boring person since my life rotates around the same routine or
2) just damn lazy.
1) boring person since my life rotates around the same routine or
2) just damn lazy.
Most prolly the combination of both.
So the combination of both super-awe-celent laziness and boredom, I freely let go the month which is abundant with blog-able material. THA August.
Well, Augusts usually starts with my birthday, with Merdeka, and with Hari Raya. But I havent talk a single thing about everything.
Apparently, as I grow older, I get boring-er.And lazier.
I mean, when I write about the usual stuff, after 4 years it seems to show patterns nowadays. If it shows intricate paisleys or whimsy embroidery punya pattern takpa la, tapi ni pattern dah rupa budak darjah satu punya conteng!
*my blog somehow bring such feelings like these, no joke*
But luckily this year's August was pretty different.
Since I spent (just) 2 days in Penang with Haru and teh buddies. 2 days out of 31 days of August. 2 days well-spent though.
We're actually intended to fulfill the invitation of a dear friend of her walimah, her kenduri. But apparently other Japanese friends also want to tag along and suddenly want to go to Penang for a quick holiday so all of the sudden the Ketats found themselves in Penang teman-ing these Japanese friends.
But it was a good surprise. :)
The last time I visit Penang was when I was 5 or 6 years old (I was convinced I was 6, but my mom corrected that I was 5 then) some, well, 18-19 friggin' years ago. I remembered 18-19 years ago I went to Penang to attend my father's graduation ceremony. The recollections were pretty blurry, except that the time we stayed in a budget hotel my dad touted "Hotel Tabung Haji" but the budget hotel had super spacious rooms which costed RM50 per night. Those days, RM50 is mahal already, don't you think?
So! Going back to Penang brings back memories. :) It was awesome since I was there with people that I treasure. So, we travelled to Penang (by we I mean, me, Haru and another friend), enduring 4 hours of journey via car and ferry (awesome) straight to the Pearl of the Orient.
BTW, the ferry's fare is RM7.70 per car. They charge the motorcyclists too! You can see *almost* the whole Penang with gregarious wind slapping your cheeks and ruin your tudung and hair.
Container-lifters at the Port.
*Haru: kat Klang pun ada laa!*
They kinda looked like Star Wars AT-AT gone blonde makeover something.
Ferry! I love the lovely blue shade :D
Ferries in Penang actually has names; this one's "Pulau Kapas".
The Port (signboard) from the window!
Then, upon disembarking, we went straight to Padang Kota Lama/Fort Cornwallis to find friends of Malaysian and Japanese nationals already waiting there.
2 of them are Malaysians. Find out which one...now! Sapa dapat jumpa dapat hadiah sebotol angin dari Fort Cornwallis yang ada bole tuntut dari Jeno, orang asal Penang.
The old building marking colonial identity near the esplanade.
The clouds were looking super ominous so we decided to flee.
Then, the girls, including me, Yuki, Nisya, Yuko, Maaya, Hitomi and Mariko went to our homestay, which I think is in Bayan Lepas (note: I THINK). After quick shower, solat and sprucing things up we waited for the boys and we went to:
Queensbay Mall! :D
I honestly do not know why we ended up here.
We spent few more minutes or so searching for Hitomi's Olympus charger, me and Haru went "Chipsmore" for a moment stuffing cold buns into our mouths since the last time we ate was a bowl of salty laksa as lunch meal. We were famishedddddddd.
Then we sent the girls to home and Jeno brought us to Line Clear for a quick nasi kandar. I loved to try the famous "Nasi Kandaq Beratoq" but the "beratoq" was sooooooooo friggin long that we ditched that plan almost immediately before scurrying to Line Clear. I couldn't get any picture of Line Clear; it was jam-packed! But they had the bills written on a piece of flimsy paper with whale doodle on it so I'm happy.
The next day, we went to Taiping--some 2-hour journey from Penang via car to attend to Hawa's wedding reception. :)
The Dewan. We actually arrived too early!
The reception's supposed to start at 1.30 p.m. but we got there sometime at 11.30 a.m. or so.
Hawa's family was pretty perplexed on how to give us service (since we got at the Dewan waaaay too early); so they got these awesome Semperit for us as tidbits to kill the time.
So our butts were sore because of constant seating and only at 1.30++ here comes the couple! *sorry Izzat, your mata a bit "pejam" here.*
Then, the camwhoring begins.
I think we got something like 20 snapshots of this kind of picture alone *sigh* I'm pretty convinced that I contracted some camera flash-inducing epilepsy afterwards. Too...many..bright..lights.. (plus you guys know that I hate being photographed. You guise knew right? Guise?)
It was some VERY serious camwhoring session since we only left the Dewan by 4 FREAKING p.m. With few hours left, we sped off and delved into the jam-packed Penang and arrived at Batu Feringghi around 6.30 p.m. The Japanese girls went to the beach almost immediately, while me and Haru hurried to the mosque, racing against the time for Jama' Ta'khir. Lucky we manage to pray just in time. It's just crazy.
Batu Feringghi in sunset.^^
I munched the most amazing grilled cob of corn here! It was sooo good! Hope that it is not spiked><
Around 8.00 p.m we went to the nearby night market. They got pretty amazing stuff lined up there. From rubber slippers, table runners, imitations wallets and watches to Chatime-like drinks, scented candles and ice creams were sold there. Like most random people I bought my own piece of souvenir; a fridge magnet and a leopard-print handbag holder for my mom.It was fun!
We later had dinner at Gurney Drive. I had the most amazing-est (my Grammar teacher will kill me for butchering the tenses) Penang Laksa, while some of us had Pasemboq (Haru had to take the udang out from his plate since he had extreme allergies over udangs), Char Koay Teow and varieties of Nasi Gorengs while enjoying "Bhole Radha"of Sanggam playing through the entire night.
But immediately after that we went to Tesco for a quick shopping since our Japanese friends wished to buy some "Malaysian cookies" for families at home. The Tesco cashier was pretty flustered seeing us turning up with carts that late--at almost 12 a.m--she looked as if she can choke-slam any of us.
Only after dropping off the girls at the homestay me, Haru and another friend went home by car. We arrived at Shah Alam sometime at 6.30-7 a.m. And I was super tired that upon reaching my room I just collapsed; as this enormous surge of fatigue just swallowed me alive. And found myself waking up at 11.30 a.m.
Penang was fun! But we were rushing so, some fun was not enjoyed with easy minds. Nevertheless it was super FUN! It's differentyou know, when you're travelling with awesome people you love and with someone which you basically well--dislike.
Penang will be waiting for my return! :D
