Cucu Encik Nurarihyon.

Okeh, agak lambat di sini.
Actually I have Nurarihyon no Mago in my posession even before I went to Japan, tapi tak tengok-tengok sebab preoccupied sangat dgn Kimi ni Todoke and Hakuoki so here goes my review on this awesome anime.

ぬらりひょんの孫, (rom. Nurarihyon no Mago) i.e. Nurarihyon's Grandchild, is an anime produced by Studio DEEN based on serialized Weekly Shonen Jump's manga written and illustrated by Shiibashi Hiroshi-sensei.
It revolves around yokai: (lit. "demon","spirit", "monster"), a class of preternatural creatures in Japanese folklore. When we say yokai, it is quick for us to generalize that Nurarihyon no Mago is another Kaibutsu-kun or GeGeGe no Kitaro wannabe, but please don't associate Nurarihyon with any of these legends above!
Nurarihyon No Mago is something else. Something different.

So Nurarihyon no Mago chronicled that life of Nura Rikuo, a twelve year-old boy who's a quarter demon (for having a demon grandfather i.e. Nurarihyon I i.e. Supreme Commander) but refused to acknowledge that he's the heir of Nura clan. To assume the post of Nurarihyon, Rikuo will become the Lord of Pandemonium, leading the clan's Hyakki Yako (kan. 画図百鬼夜行), i.e. The Parade of Hundred Demons, a responsibilty that he wants to avoid. Rikuo refused to be Nurarihyon for he had decided to be human and live his peculiar yokai-swarming life normally.
But of course, kalau dah takdir tu, ko takleh lari la, Rikuo!
Despite of his refusal, the circumstances of events practically pushed him to the point that he had to accept the responsibility of being a Nurarihyon and act fast as their leader. Circumstances ape? Itu takleh bagi tau! Spoilers tak best.

So when things went out of Rikuo's plan, some horrid occurrences happens, but as a charismatic leader, Rikuo try to manage things in his own way--> in the legendary Nurarihyon style. This is when he oozes with coolness!
Well, you see, Rikuo is a quarter demon, so in the day, he's a full-fledge human i.e. "Hi (pronounced as "hee") Rikuo" (Day Rikuo), but at night or at times when he is provoked, Rikuo is "Yoru Rikuo"(Night Rikuo, of course, duh.)

Hi Rikou (above) and Yoru Rikuo respectively.

I disprove Rikuo's entire Negima-sensei image of Hi Rikuo totally. Coolness pleaseeee!!! buu.
So Yoru Rikuo solved problems of his clan (including treason, death threats, among others) with amazing perseverance and strong leadership, needless to say. So after Rikuo assumed his role as Nurarihyon III, he need to strike the balance in his life, which means, work diligently as a leader of clan at night, and at the day, as a junior high school student studying with friends!
Chaos or whaaaat??

As much that it sounds so very the cliche one, I love the anime/manga for its efforts of highlighting various types of yokais: from the frightening ones
(Hitotsume Nyuudou)

(Hihi-san)

to the ikemen ones

(Kubinashi and Byakuya Kurotabou)

and also the adorable ones
 like this one, (Natto Kozo)

or Sannokuchi yang comeeeeell!

I had fun watching their various antics. It has zany features of yokais and demons, but amazingly I can relate those insane beings with human emotions and attitude.
That's the special part of Nurarihyon no Mago, I guess.
Despite of their existence, ridiculous features and abilities which is an antithesis of human presence ourselves, I believe that these yokais portrays us accurately in a sense. In the sense of friendship, loyalty, sincerity and tolerance.
And above all, it discussed on assumed responsibilities and obligations that sometimes we cannot deny.

Nurarihyon no Mago recived 4.5 out of 5 from mee! Yay Nura!
Yoru Rikuooo! Can't help falling in love with his stoic-kyara. Oh yeah, and kanji at the back is (畏れ)"Osore" it means "fear".
